Method
Kanlı Yalan follows a single method: we set the official account beside the record contained in the official documents, show the contradictions between them, and leave the interpretation to the reader. Our method rests on the elementary principles of forensic inquiry: primary sources, verifiability, and the confinement of every assertion to what a document supports. Each step of the work can be retraced through the documents in the case file.
We base every factual finding on a document: a reasoned judgment, an expert or autopsy report, a crime-scene examination report. We reproduce quotations in their original spelling; where we add an assessment or inference, we mark it in the text as expressly the author's. Witness statements we use only in support, and never rest a finding on testimony alone. Hearsay we do not treat as proof of any claim, even where it appears in the case file.
We never load a document with more than it carries. We report a finding with exactly the degree of certainty the report gives it: a DNA report stating a 95% probability of a match we do not present as a “positive identification.” The limit the report sets is our limit too; we turn neither probability into certainty, nor a finding into a verdict.
We accuse no one and return no verdict; we put ourselves in the place of no court. Our sole task is to bring the inconsistencies among the documents in the file to light, and to argue that the questions left unresolved ought to be investigated.
We make the electronically signed original of every document cited in the book available here, at archive.org, and in our signed torrent package. Any diligent reader can reach the sources in full and confirm for themselves that we engage in no selective citation.
We want this work to be examined. We openly invite journalists, jurists, forensic experts, and independent researchers to test our method, re-examine the archive, and challenge our findings.
